Thrill Show Is Back In South Philly

The Hero Thrill Show made it’s return to South Philadelphia in the parking lot of the stadium sports complex. This event, held yesterday is smaller than what it was even a few years ago. Even so, there are things that are different than in years past. For example, an area is roped off towards the back end of the parking lot and people can get a fire truck ride, twice around the area and you may be able to operate the siren, also .

The Motorcycle Drill Team is back again with a show that will show off trick and stunts, All done by Highway Officers that do not get paid to do this. Sometimes the bikes ride close together , other times officers ride them up to five on a single bike to do tricks and stunts.

The K-9 displays will show off how the dogs can chase and apprehend a suspect or find drugs and or explosives hi9dden in a car. In case people got hungry, food trucks from Steve’s Steaks and John’s water ice were there to feed people.

Souvenir shirts and hats were for sale and some units, like the Aviation Department were selling shirts as well. That money goes to the general fund inside the unit, for training trips and seminars. The Marine Unit had a boat on display that lots of people lined up to tour.

The Hero Thrill Show relieves the burden of paying for the college education for families who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty in the Philadelphia police and fire departments. 30 children in recent years have benefited from free college tuition courtesy of the Hero Thrill Show.
