US Supreme Court To hear Tik Tok Argument Tomorrow
by Alex Lloyd Gross
The US Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the Tik Tok argument tomorrow. This justice department wants to ban it in the United States. They submitted their argument that is is dangerous and COULD take peoples information and stockpile it. Bytedance is owned by China and Bytedance owns Tik-Tok. If a prosecutor made an argument to take someone’s freedom because they could steal from a store ( but never did and never had a record of doing it,) they would be laughed out of court.
Multiple politicians have used this “dangerous” app, including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, through their campaigns. It is too dangerous for 170 million Americans but a select few who run for office can use it with impunity. Donald Trump has come out in favor of Tik-Tok. He should, the App connected him with millions of young voters and substantially helped him win the presidency.

Banning this app will see 170 million creators in the United States who supplement their income with items for sale in the Tik-Tok shop or sell products online. Tik-Tok does not promote homosexual behavior, transgender behavior or other nefarious goings on. If a user searches for it, they will find it and the algorithm will give them more of what they searched for. You can search for science and nature and get that too.

If you look at girls dancing, guys weightlifting, cats playing or even politics, it is all there. Sites like TEMU take the same information and sell items to Americans. TEMU is based in China and is not in danger of being banned, so there is a huge problem with the government’s argument. In fact more people buy goods and services from China than have a Tik-Tok account but the only thing being litigated in the US Supreme Court is Tik-Tok.

It is a free speech issue even if the courts have said it is not. They will threat a needle with a narrow argument, and view that, while the bigger issue is plain as day, Taking this away could hurt the American economy and hurt Americans. The court is going to rule before January 19, 2025, which is the date it will be banned.
