Bensalem Cat Sanctuary Destroyed By Storm
by Alex Lloyd Gross
The recent storms that came through the area did damage to a lot of places. The Bridge Animal Clinic on Declaration Drive in Bensalem suffered devastating damage to a cat sanctuary. According to staff, about 20 cats called this secure area home.
It was in a clearing near a wooded area. These cats will not be adopted. Some were feral, others had health issues and others have never been socialized before. They are colony cats that best survive in nature. This sanctuary gives them that but with a lot of help. There are cat shelters they can go in and a giant shed when cold weather hits. That shed has heated blankets for them.Volunteers feet the cats.
When the storms hit, trees came down and smashed some of the shelter boxes, destroyed the fence keeping them secure. Now, the fence needs to be fixed, trees cut and new shelter boxes need to be constructed.

The cost is around $18,000 and the community really steeped up but the total cost has not yet been met. They are still about $6000 short, clinic officials said. They are incredibly grateful for the support they have gotten.
This is the same clinic that had ambitious plans for dogs and cats. They are in the final phases of construction for a dog park.

When the damage was done cats that were petrified ran and now the area is open, some of them are too scared to return, they are in the woods, where they could become prey to other wild animals. About 12 cats have returned and when the work is complete, clinic people will trap the remaining cats and return them to their home. The sanctuary is run by volunteers.
