Drugs and Guns Found On Bensalem Police Traffic Stop
by Alex Lloyd Gross
Robert Cleary, 22 from Bingham Street in Northeast Philadelphia was driving a blue Buick on Street Road in Bensalem on July 19, 2025. His windows were tinted and police stopped him for that. When they talked with him, they saw drug paraphernalia in plain view and police said the car smelled of marijuana.
Cleary exercised his constitution right to not permit police to conduct a roadside search of his car. Police still had probable cause to search him and they said they found a plastic straw and suspected narcotic residue in his pocket. He was released from the scene and his car was towed to police headquarters where police waited until they got a search warrant.
Once they had that, they got to work seeing what they could find. During the search, police said they found a .22 caliber Pistol that was loaded in the center console; a 9mm Springfield Pistol that was loaded behind the driver’s seat, a Winchester shotgun, a FIE revolver, a broken-down rifle, and an extended 9mm magazine loaded with 20 rounds. Police also recovered suspected fentanyl, marijuana, suboxone strips, gun holsters, a digital scale, and other drug paraphernalia.

Cleary did not have a permit to carry a gun. In fact, police said one of the guns n the car was reported stolen in March in Philadelphia. An arrest warrant was issued for Cleary and he turned himself into police with his attorney.
