Armored Car Guard Shoots At Robbers In Mayfair Robbery Attempt

It was shortly before 8:00 AM when a Loomis armored vehicle arrived at the WAWA on the 7700 block of Frankford Ave. Waiting for the driver were two masked robbers parked in a White vehicle on Meridian Street.

According to a wetness who did not want to be identified, one of them yelled “Let’s Go” and pulled an AR- style rifle an pointed it at the guard, who quickly got off four shots . The guard told the witness he thinks he might have shot one of the robbers, but police have not reported anyone walking into any hospitals with a gunshot.

Both robbers had ski masks on and ran down Meridian Street and according to the witness, they did not take them off. A total of three possibly four shots were fired by the guard. The robbers did not fire any wounds, the witness said.

The windows to the WAWA were shattered by gunfire and one bullet went into the drivers door of the car the robbers drove up in. That vehicle was towed by police, who will go over it with a fine tooth comb. Agents from the FBI were on scene as well.

Police confirmed that nothing was taken in this incident. Police tape surrounded the store which remained locked. Still that did not deter peple who climbed over it to attempt to get into the store. Police and FBI Agents were inside the store reviewing security cameras.
