Nine Current /Former Philadelphia Police Officers Arrested For Corruption

Nine cops who were working at the ” Guns Down Gloves Up” program taught at risk children in the city boxing lessons. The idea behind this was simple, while the kids are learning and around officers, they were not doing bad things and getting into trouble. After the investigation unfolded, it was the officers that got into trouble, police said.
This program was grant funded. While the officers were working and getting paid by the city, they were also getting money from the program, police and the District Attorney said. In total, five active-duty officers have been dismissed, and four additional individuals, including former Captain Nashid Akil and former Police Officers George Gee, Robyn Gee, and LaCarmela Fortune, retired from the Department prior to the filing of criminal charges.
The officers all were veteran officers. They were all charged with theft and conspiracy. The charges are all felonies.
