Accused Serial Burglar Arrested In Bensalem

by Alex Lloyd Gross

Twenty-first century technology is being credited with helping police nab a serial burglar responsible for a string of burglaries targeting businesses in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, and Chester Counties. Police say the suspect is Richard Sturts, who is familiar to law enforcement; both Warrington Police and the probation department had active warrants out for his arrest.

Sturts is accused of driving a Chevrolet Silverado into the front doors of Bob Nolan’s Auto Service. The glass doors shattered after being rammed several times. Sturts then exited the truck, entered the business, and stole a cash register before driving away. The incident occurred on December 2, 2025.

Police said multiple townships experienced similar burglaries, all committed using the same make and model vehicle. After comparing notes, investigators developed Sturts as a suspect and entered his license plate into a system designed to alert officers to the vehicle’s location.

On December 18, officers received a ping indicating the vehicle was near the Park and Ride. Sturts was located a few minutes later on foot and was taken into custody on the two outstanding warrants.

Sturts was transported to police headquarters and interviewed by detectives, during which he admitted to driving the Chevy Silverado pickup truck captured on surveillance video during the burglary at Bob Nolan’s Auto Service and other burglarized businesses in the region. He was charged in Bensalem with burglary, criminal trespass, and related offenses. District Justice Mark Douple arraigned him, setting bail at 10 percent of $150,000, and Sturts was remanded to Bucks County Prison. Additional charges from other police agencies are forthcoming.

  1. As I said the other day to a neighbor about certain people….
Stealing from someone doesn’t net you any friends.
