Camden City Firefighter Dies After Falling Into Icy Delaware River



Two Philadelphia Fire boats along with the Philadelphia Police Marine Unit were called to the Delaware River Boat Launch near Wiggins Park in Camden NJ to help search for a firefighter that either slipped or fell into the river.

There was a lot of ice in the river and he was trapped under ice officials said, they did not have a visual on him. After a search that lasted less than 15 minutes, the firefighter was pulled from the river and rushed to Cooper Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The entire Camden City Fire Department was put out of service and calls are being run by neighboring departments, officials said. As of press time, the identity of the firefighter has not yet been identified. Officials confirmed the firefighter had 26 years on the job and was participating in a training exercise when the incident happened.
