Franklin Mills Flea Market Returns
by Alex Lloyd Gross
With weather in the 60’s and sunny, it’s a great day to visit a flea market. The one at Franklin Mills opens April 12 at 8:00 AM. The line of vendors starts early, they want to get in and get set up. According to Anthony Soprano, “It;s first come first serve” for vendors. They want to get to the site early because they then have to set up their booth. That takes some time. Plus early shoppers try for bargains.
You can find almost anything here, from clothing to electronics. At least two different people were selling bbq grills for a fraction of what you would pay in a store. Of course the things are used, but they can be cleaned up. A lot of people were selling records and CD’s.

If you are a vendor, you may want to gauge the market. Carnival barkers can attract customers,or they can chase them away. If you feel the need to engage in that, judge your audience. The same with music or anything with amplified sound. Listening to R&B or gospel at a loud level will attract people interested in that but it will also push away those that do not care for it.

Coming to this event. you can skip breakfast because several people are selling food at this flea market. It’s reasonable and one vendor even offers tables and chairs . Those looking for antique and vintage are in luck .As you stroll the many aisles you will see things over 100 years old, reasonably priced.

The first rule of flea market shopping is to try to negotiate on the price. However, sometimes the seller will not budge. How much do you want that cooking set? New it’s $85.00, but you see if for $25.00. You offer $15.00 but the seller cannot budge. You may kick yourself if you walk away and come back later and it’s sold.

This flea market runs every Sunday, rain or shine until the fall.
