Political Heavy Weight AOC Stumps For Votes In North Philly

Alexandria Ocasio -Cortez is a Democratic member of congress from New York. She is young and dynamic and some say she is the future of the democratic party. Others say she should go back to bar tending. Either way, she came to the Garden of Prayer, a church near 29th Street and Susquehanna Avenue for a rally to elect Chris Rabb to the United States Congress.

When she took the stage, she was quiet, not shouting, but still ful lof energy. She touted Rabb to anyone that would listen. The entire rally was supposed to end at 7:00. It went just past 7:30 PM and the reason is some speakers went way over their allotted time.

Each one was saying the same thing. Gas prices are too high, Food prices are too high, PECO is charging too much and wages have not really gone up. In fact, the minimum wage is still $7.25/hr. The packed crowd in the church knows all of this. They do not need it repeated.

They came to hear and see AOC. They wanted to meet Chris Rabb. They did both. There was an overflow crowd that spilled into the lobby. Before Rabb and AOC took the stage, there was a plethora of speakers, from ward leaders, to organizers. Some shouted to yet their point across. Some in the crowd were bored. They wanted the main event. Several speakers ignored a volunteer in the front row holding a “One Minute” sign. That caused the event to go over.

The power should have been turned off or music coming on, like an awards show to let the speaker know it’s time to wrap things up.

Rabb, a PA State Representative said “He must be doing something right”. He took the stage and started to dance. He talked about his ideas. There is a huge wealth gap. Fewer people are millionaires and more and more people are on public assistance. With Rabb in congress, he will work with Cortez to change that. Taxing the wealthy can backfire as the New York Mayor Zohan Mandani found out when corporations announced plans to flee New York and setup shop in more business friendly states. The same is happening in Seattle.

Ocasio-Cortez was a frequent proponent of defunding the police, yet there were no less than 15 members of law enforcement on duty to protect her. That does not include the private security that was hired. AOC did not mingle with the crowd. She spoke and got a rousing standing ovation. She hugged Rabb and exited the stage. She did not meet with people.

The PA Primary is this Tuesday, May 19.
