April Wine Set To Play Area Tomorrow With Triumph

by Alex Lloyd Gross

Back in the day, fans would sleep out for concert tickets or even at the venue hoping to get a good spot. If this practice was still going on, there is no doubt that the April Wine/Triumph show scheduled for tomorrow at the Freedom Mortgage Amphitheater would be one of those shows.

Remember this banger from back in the day?

“We have not played Philly a lot for some reason, I remember one time in I think it was 1992 where we had 12 people show up. No one knew about the show, it was poorly promoted and advertised wrong”, said Brian Greenway, guitar player for April Wine. It’s guaranteed that this show was promoted well. It’s also guaranteed that fans going to the show will have a great time.

While April Wine will only on onstage for about 45 minutes, “We’re going to play most of the songs from the first three albums that people want to hear”, Greenway said, while on the phone in Georgia. They will not be playing “If You See Kay”, which is off the Power Play album. “It’s an easy way for someone to take offense to it ” Greenway said. Plus April Wine did not write that song.

No one is going to be offended by that song, while the youth of today can listen to a number one song about “Wet Ass Pussy” and be fine with it. While April Wine may not play that song, they will be playing “Roller” and “Sign Of The Gypsy Queen”.

“We do have requests for it but it’s a song that this version of the band has not ever played perhaps we should start playing it live,”Greenway said. Triumph and April Wine are both from Canada and are friends. “It’s a great double bill and we know each other. I was not involved in putting this tour together”, Greenway said.

The band members have changed. Brian Greenway is the longest serving member of this band, Lead vocalist Myles Goodwin passed away a few years ago.

While this band has a lot of music to choose from, for right now, they are only on the first three albums. When they play “Big City Girls” that is based off of a true story. “We were in Edmonton coming back from the show and there were ladies of the night in front of the hotel. They wanted to party and they all came up to my room. Then we found out that these were hookers and said that’s not happening. They got all pissed off and they cared “PIG” in my hotel room door. They destroyed a guests car that I guess they thought was one of the band members. It was not”, Greenway said.

You can hear them do that song tomorrow night. Some tickets still remain.
