New Regional Communications Network Aims To Strengthen Community Preparedness Across Southeastern Pennsylvania And Southern New Jersey

Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey: As communities become increasingly reliant on cellular networks and internet connectivity, a newly established volunteer organization is working to ensure residents have another way to stay connected when technology fails.

The Community Care Communications Network (CCCN) has officially launched, bringing together licensed GMRS radio operators from Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey with a mission centered on preparedness, public service, and community support.

Founded by Stu Visnov and Jeff Landis, the organization is building a professionally managed regional communications network designed to connect families, travelers, volunteers, first responders, and community organizations through dependable radio communications.

The growing network currently operates repeater systems serving Worcester, Conshohocken, Souderton, and portions of Southern New Jersey, with additional sites planned as membership expands.

While many radio organizations focus primarily on the technical side of the hobby, CCCN says its mission is rooted in community. Members regularly train together, mentor new operators, promote responsible radio practices, and build relationships before emergencies occur.

Organizers say recent severe weather events, power outages, and communications disruptions have reinforced the importance of having reliable alternatives when traditional communications become overloaded or unavailable.

CCCN is open to anyone holding a valid FCC GMRS license. The organization welcomes families, travelers, first responders, CERT and REACT volunteers, outdoor enthusiasts, motorcycle and bicycle clubs, and community organizations interested in expanding their communications capabilities. No previous radio experience is required, with experienced members available to help newcomers get started.

The organization also maintains a working partnership with the South Eastern Pennsylvania Independent REACT organization, which assists with repeater monitoring, communications support, and network operations.

Looking ahead, CCCN plans to continue expanding its communications infrastructure throughout the Delaware Valley while encouraging greater public awareness of emergency preparedness and neighborhood resilience.

“Our goal is simple,” organizers said. “Communications is about far more than radios. It’s about people helping people and ensuring communities remain connected when they need it most.”

  1. All well and good.
However, doesn’t our local radio stations like KYW AM1060 (and its FM103.9) already provide far-reaching coverage of things like severe storms, fires, flooding, etc.

And having a handy portable radio around, with some Energizer Lithium batteries in it, tucked away for emergencies is also a low-cost beneficial thing to have.
