Republicans Shell Shocked At Major Upset Losses Last Night
by Alex Lloyd Gross
Bucks County is a crucial, bellwether microcosm of the country. Last night, those that went to the polls and voted showed what they are tired of. The Iran war, attack ads that were relentless and a very unpopular president.
KC Tomlinson lost her seat to Bryan Allen. Joe Hogan lost his to Kristin Egan, who was a School Board Director for the Neshaminy School District. She issued a statement after beating the incumbent Hogan. That statement said in part:”Today, voters in the 142nd District have made their voices heard and I am honored to accept the privilege of becoming their next state representative. Throughout my life, I have stepped up to represent students, educators, working families, senior citizens, and the community at large. I will continue that commitment in Harrisburg and work every day to ensure our residents’ voices are heard. For those whose trust and support I have yet to earn, I ask for the opportunity to do so through my actions. I will make myself accessible, listen to your concerns, show up in our communities, seek out perspectives different from my own, and work collaboratively to address the issues that affect your everyday lives.
Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick lost to Bob Harvie, a Bucks County Commissioner. That race was as dirty as they come, with relentless billboard advertising showing what appeared to be a booking photo of Harvie and the words alluding to the fact that Harvie was under FBI Investigation. He was not. This campaign was painful to see.According to Politico ,Dave Sommers was responsible for some of them.
Sommers is a convicted felon who did six months in a Federal Prison and was fined $250,000 for trafficking in turtles. This irresponsible act actually caused the deaths of baby turtles. Sommers was a former reporter for the Bucks County Courier Times and later The Trentonian. He now blogs opinion posts for Patch.
That race was called just before midnight. Fitzpatrick was bipartisan, often times breaking with his own party to vote for what he thought was right.
It also looks like Senator Frank Farry will give up his seat to newcomer Eileen Hartnett Albillar who was neck and neck with Farry for a while. She is currently the Bucks County clerk of courts, a position she’s held since January 2024. She previously served on the Warrington Township Board of Supervisors from 2018 to 2023.
The PA Senate is too close to call to see if Democrats flip it to blue. Part of reason was the stagnant minimum wage. with Senate Republicans blocking any increase in almost 20 years, yet taking home a cost of living adjustment. With Trump’s Iran War driving up fuel prices, people are frustrated. The tariffs Trump imposed are not working. While Farry has no say on federal policies, he has come out against putting a few dollars more in the paychecks of people that need it the most.
In Central Bucks, Shelby Labs was neck and neck with Tim Hayes, a Dublin Councilman . That race was called in Hayes favor late last night. His statement read in part: Having served on Dublin Borough Council for a number of years, I know how powerful a united community can be. I was inspired to run because I hoped to bring our community together so we could fight to further advance our local solutions in Harrisburg. During my term as state representative, I’ll work to take on the affordability crisis, protect our environment, and support our local law enforcement with the resources they need. I’m grateful for your trust in me, and promise to fight for the more affordable, safer, and greener Bucks County that we have discussed time and time again.
Alongside my fellow Democratic majority, and every legislator willing to put the people before their party, I look forward to delivering solutions for Pennsylvania. Let’s get to work.”
