September 5 2016, was supposed to be marred by a hurricane. instead, it was a bright, sunny day, perfect for a parade and that is exactly what happened in Bristol Borough, Bucks County. The famous Clydesdale horses made a trip trough the center of town, stopping at bars and restaurants to drop off ceremonial cases of beer.

Thousands of people lines the parade route, with their children and pets. All hoping to get a view of the horses.   For some the horses came through at a good clip. For others, they got the chance to see them for longer period of time, when they made stops or at the Borough Hall where  the horses were lined up for a photo op. Volunteers got picked to walk along the horses and some were simply not up to the task.

Children  would dart into the street, up to the horses to try to pet them. People would try to step close to get selfies with them while the parade was going on. This was not a job for the shy and timid.  As the parade made it’s way to the wharf, thousands lined up to watch them walk around the parking lot before they were put away.  When the horses were unloaded, from their trucks to start the parade, about 100 people were lucky enough to get into the compound to snap photos and watch them get hitched up. During the parade the horses were escorted by fire trucks. That made for even better photos.

All in all there, were a total of eight horses.  This is called “A full hitch”.  The Clydesdale promotion will have one horse in Bensalem at Street & Hulmeville later this week. The parade route was attended by children of all ages and animals of all kinds. Of course, people may bring their dog  to watch , but some brought other animals such as a goat and a Shetland Pony.  Speaking of animals, riding on top of the horse drawn wagon was a Dalmatian. Some people were calling him Bud while others proclaimed his name to be Barley.
