Two Philly cops hurt in crash
By Alex Lloyd Gross
Two cops assigned to the 15th District in Philadelphia were hurt today, September 15 2016 at the intersection of Frankford and Cheltenham Avenues. The crash happened just after noon when the cops were responding to an “assist officer” call and collided with another vehicle. Both officers sustained serious but not life threatening injuries and were transported to Temple University Hospital.
When an assist call comes out, all available officers respond with lights and sirens to the scene. This crash is being investigated by the Accident Investigation division who will determine fault. Since this happened at an intersection, it could be difficult to determine who had the right of way. A police vehicle may proceed through a red signal but first, they must stop and determine if it is safe to proceed.
The roads surrounding the accident scene were closed to traffic for several hours until the wreckage could be cleared.
