Bucks County Tour of Honor welcomes vets home
By Alex Lloyd Gross
Hundreds of people showed up to Parx Casino on Street Road in Bensalem , to welcome home the Bucks County Tour of Honor. This is bus trip with vets from all branches of the armed service as they take a trip to Washington DC to visit some memorials. This tour took them past the Iwo Jima, Korean Memorials plus drive by’s of the sights in the nations capitol, such as the Washington Monument, The White House and the Capitol Building. Many of the vets are elderly and frail. Getting up steps or disembarking one of several buses multiple times could be burdensome to them. That is the reason the bus caravan did not stop at some of the memorials.
By 6;00 AM the contingent of vets were on their way, through three states , not including our nations capitol, with a police escort. That is what all of the commotion was about, for drivers on I-95 or Street Road. Multiple fire trucks lined the road with ladders extended as arches , waiting for the bus caravan to return the vets home to Bucks County. The police escort back to Parx included a low flying police helicopter, and several dozen motorcycles, not to mention Warriors Watch.
Getting the vets off the buses took about 20 minutes as each vet was walked down a red carpet, to go into the casino, where they were treated to a dinner. High school marching bands provided music. About 500 people showed up to welcome them home. People were waving flags and carrying signs showing their support for those that fought for America, many years ago.
