This weekend, November 19-20, 2016 in the weekend that  the Philadelphia Marathon takes place. It’s a grueling 26 mile run through Philadelphia.   26 miles is a bit too much for you to run? No problem, there is a half marathon of 13.1 miles, or even an 8K run which is about five miles.    The time for an out of shape beginner to do the 8 K  is about one hour and that is with stopping, walking and  running at a slower pace than most  other people.  For children, there is a one  miles fun run as well.

To get people started and to give them a place to pick up their race bibs and such,  The Pennsylvania Convention Center  hosts the Health and Fitness Expo on the ground floor. It’s free to get in and  there are multiple vendors who are selling everything from health food to running shoes.  You can find  runners safety items like small lights and reflective clothing if you run during the early morning or evening hours.  Some of the stuff makes for great gifts.

While registration for the race has  long since closed,  it’s free to watch. You may encounter extra security if you live or work near any of the race course.  The actual course  encompasses parts of South Philly,  Mannyunk and of course, center city. If you are driving in the city today, near any of those areas, allow for extra delays.
