Woman dies in Bensalem house fire

One woman is dead and a family is homeless, after a quick moving one alarm fire engulfed their house on the 2500 block of June Avenue in Bensalem.  The fire was reported just after 7:00 AM .  Everyone got out of the house alive , but one woman ran back in , to try to save her dog and cat. Both perished in the fire as well. One dog was able to be removed.and is ok.

Bensalem Fire Chief Rob Sponhiemer was on scene and said that “People should never go back inside, tell us your pets are inside we have the tools and training to attempt to rescue them. You don’t”.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  All that remains of the house is a burnt shell. When fire crews first arrived on scene, they were greeted with heavy fire and smoke coming through the roof and windows. One firefighter suffered a minor injury during the fire.

June Avenue is in a residential area away from main thoroughfares . Neighbors were saddened to learn what happened and  shocked as well.  A detached garage sits on the property and two autos were burned and destroyed as well. Fire crews remained on the scene for most of the morning.
