Fatal crash on Bustleton Avenue in Philadelphia

One man is dead and two others are injured following a multi vehicle wreck on Bustleton Avenue at Grant today, October 9 2017. According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, a male driver of a a red SUV was traveling south on Bustleton Avenue, when he veered to avoid hitting another vehicle. “He traveled into the northbound lanes and struck three other vehicles. He was ejected, and part of the vehicle fell onto him . Several bystanders rushed over to help lift the vehicle off of him. In spite of that, he was pronounced dead at 4:48 PM”,  Inspector Small said.

Two occupants in another vehicle were transported to a local hospital. The drivers of the two other vehicles did not report any injuries at the scene and declined to get medical treatment. Both directions of Bustleton Avenue were closed  while an investigation took place. The road was reopened several hours later.  Police are looking for witnesses to the crash.  No names have been released, pending notification.
