Woman Banned From Sesame Place After Racist Assault On Muslim
By Alex Lloyd Gross
All Zafirah Moore wanted to do on Monday, August 5 2019 was enjoy Sesame Place with her family. She was having a good time until she went to the water area with her family. Moore is black and is a Muslim. She was dressed in her hijab, which covers her face and body. A much older woman was also at the park, wearing a one piece bathing suit. This woman was reportedly cursing and using inappropriate language in front of children, Moore said. She asked the woman to please stop cursing in front of her children. You can see the video here, on Moore’s Instagram page.
That is when the older woman went off on a tangent against Moore, telling her to “Go back where she came from”, a reference to Donald Trump’s attacks on four democratic minority congresswomen. The older woman was allegedly cursing in front of her but not at her, when the incident happened. When the woman turned her attack on Moore, she began to record it, and did get a portion of the vile attack on film. She was even told to “Go Fu-k Yourself”, before the woman flipped her the bird.
She saw she was being recorded, and the older woman then made a feeble attempt to slap the phone out of Moore’s hand. Lifeguards and security became involved a the two were separated. Sesame Place issued a statement:
“Sesame Place only welcomes respect for others and does not tolerate this type of behavior. The guest depicted in that video was promptly removed from the park and will not be permitted to return. Creating safe and enjoyable experiences for all guests is our top priority. Our team deeply regrets that any park guest would have this experience in our park. It runs counter to everything we stand for. To be clear, the woman depicted in that video was not given tickets to return to the park.”. The woman’s name and information were taken and she is not permitted back into the park ever. The incident did not involve police but they may elect to charge the woman criminally.
