Woman Struck and Killed By PECO Truck In Far Northeast

UPDATE 4:30 pm, The woman has died from her injuries. The woman, an 80 year old nun was identified as Sister Frances Antoinette. She last worked at Archbishop Ryan High School.

A woman crossing the street was struck by a PECO truck making a turn , just before 3:00 PM today, August 5 2021. The accident happened on Academy rd at Morrell Ave. Witnesses said that the truck was coming from Morrell Avenue and trying to make a left onto Academy Road, to go towards I-95. The pedestrian described as a woman possibly in her 50’s was struck by the front of the truck.
The impact caused part of the front of the heavy utility truck to become dislodged. Academy Road was closed to traffic for the investigation. The woman was said to be in very serious condition. Medics were observed doing CPR on her at the accident scene. Police said they were not sure what color the light was or which direction the woman was crossing the street. The crash took place within the crosswalk area.
no other vehicles were involved. Police said no charges will be filed until after the investigation is concluded, if any are warranted. The river of the truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. He was visibly distraught.
