Shootings and Crime Continue Into 2022 With A Vengeance

Happy New Year. That greeting is usually followed by best wishes for a safe and healthy new year. Last year, Philadelphia clocked in with 562 murders, which was unprecedented. The homicide rate had not reached the 500 number since 1990. Those that thought just because a page flips on a calendar, the mayhem would stop are delusional. Let’s look at the violent crime that happened just after the clock struck midnight January 1 2022. All taken from police reports.
3900 FRANKFORD AVENUE, TIME OF OCCURRENCE IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. VICTIM #1– A 23-YEAR-OLD HISPANIC MALE WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE LEFT LEG. HE WAS TRANSPORTED TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL BY PRIVATE VEHICLE AND IS LISTED IN STABLE CONDITION. VICTIM #2 – A 21-YEAR-OLD HISPANIC MALE WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE ABDOMEN. HE WALKED INTO ST. CHRISTOPHER HOSPITAL AND IS LISTED IN CRITICAL BUT STABLE CONDITION. VICTIM #3– A 23-YEAR-OLD HISPANIC MALE WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE ABDOMEN AND ALSO WALKED INTO ST CHRISTOPHER HOSPITAL. HE IS LISTED IN STABLE BUT CRITICAL CONDITION. 24TH DISTRICT POLICE OFFICERS ARE STILL SURVEYING FOR A SCENE. NO ARRESTS AT THIS TIME. WEAPONS WERE RECOVERED FROM A NEARBY LOCATION. THE INVESTIGATION IS ACTIVE AND ONGOING WITH EAST DETECTIVES.
15TH DISTRICT-SHOOTING
TORRESDALE AVENUE AND HOWELL STREET ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 3:23 A.M. A 28-YEAR-OLD BLACK MALE WAS SHOT TWO TIMES IN THE LOWER LEFT LEG. HE WAS TRANSPORTED BY 15TH DISTRICT POLICE OFFICERS TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AND PLACED IN STABLE CONDITION. SCENE HELD… NO ARREST MADE… NO WEAPONS RECOVERED.
17TH DISTRICT – STABBING
2900 REED STREET ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 3:23 A.M., A 49-YEAR-OLD WHITE MALE WAS STABBED ONE TIME TO THE LOWER BACK. HE WAS TRANSPORTED TO PENN PRESBYTERIAN MEDICAL CENTER BY 17TH DISTRICT POLICE OFFICERS. HE IS CURRENTLY LISTED IN STABLE CONDITION. SCENE HELD…NO ARRESTS…NO WEAPON RECOVERED.
25TH DISTRICT-DOUBLE SHOOTING
AT 8TH STREET AND CAMBRIA STREET ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 2:15 A.M., A 36-YEAR-OLD HISPANIC MALE WAS SHOT TWO TIMES IN THE RIGHT LEG AND ONE TIME IN THE LEFT LEG. VICTIM #2– A 22-YEAR-OLD HISPANIC FEMALE WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE RIGHT EYE. BOTH VICTIMS WERE TRANSPORTED BY PRIVATE VEHICLE TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WHERE THEY WERE PLACED IN STABLE CONDITION. NO SCENE, NO ARREST AND NO WEAPON RECOVERED. THE INVESTIGATION IS ACTIVE AND ONGOING WITH EAST DETECTIVES.
22ND DISTRICT-HOMICIDE BY QUINTUPLET SHOOTING
1600 CECIL B. MOORE AVENUE AT APPROXIMATELY 1:48 A.M., A 16-YEAR-OLD BLACK MALE WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. HE WAS TRANSPORTED BY 22ND DISTRICT POLICE OFFICERS TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED AT 1:56 A.M. VICTIM #2- A 27-YEAR-OLD BLACK MALE WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE LEFT LEG. HE WAS TRANSPORTED BY TEMPLE POLICE TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS PLACED IN STABLE CONDITION. VICTIM #3- A 23-YEAR-OLD BLACK FEMALE WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE LEG. SHE WAS TRANSPORTED BY TEMPLE POLICE TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WHERE SHE WAS PLACED IN STABLE CONDITION. VICTIM #4 A MALE APPROXIMATELY 20 YEARS OLD WAS SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE CHEST. HE WAS TRANSPORTED BY TEMPLE POLICE TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS PLACED IN CRITICAL CONDITION. VICTIM #5- A FEMALE APPROXIMATELY 20 YEARS OLD WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE PELVIS. SHE WAS TRANSPORTED BY TEMPLE POLICE TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WHERE SHE WAS PLACED IN STABLE CONDITION. SCENE HELD, NO ARREST AND NO WEAPON RECOVERED. THE INVESTIGATION IS ACTIVE AND ONGOING WITH HOMICIDE DETECTIVES.
25TH DISTRICT-HOMICIDE BY TRIPLE SHOOTING
100 EAST LURAY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 1:30 A.M., A 33-YEAR-OLD BLACK MALE WAS SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE CHEST. HE WAS TRANSPORTED BY 25TH DISTRICT POLICE OFFICERS TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED AT 1:50 A.M. VICTIM #2– A 23-YEAR-OLD BLACK FEMALE WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE RIGHT ANKLE. SHE WAS TRANSPORTED BY 25TH DISTRICT POLICE OFFICERS TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AND WAS PLACED IN STABLE CONDITION. VICTIM #3- A 23-YEAR-OLD BLACK FEMALE WAS SHOT ONE TIME IN THE LEFT LEG. SHE WAS TRANSPORTED BY 25TH DISTRICT POLICE OFFICERS TO TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AND PLACED IN STABLE CONDITION. SCENE HELD, NO ARREST AND NO WEAPONS RECOVERED. THE INVESTIGATION IS ACTIVE AND ONGOING WITH HOMICIDE DETECTIVES.
In the 8th District, on East Crown, a male accidentally shot himself in the leg around midnight, when he placed his handgun in his waist. The shooting is being investigated by Northeast Detectives.
