Social Media Trends Lead To Uptick In Car Thefts

People do stupid things on social media. From eating Tide Pods to Taunting wild animals. Now it’s auto theft. Usually police say it’s kids taking a car for a joy ride. Sometimes it is a professional car ring taking the car to a chop shop. The point is the owner is without a vehicle.
One such car was a 2020 KIA Forte, which was taken off Hawthorne Street, near Brighton last night, between 9:00 PM and 11:00 PM. The vehicle may have a New York license plate KBB-8129. Police are looking in the neighborhood to see if there is any security camera footage. If you live near there and have a camera facing the street, police would like to hear from you.
