A fast moving fire destroyed a building used as a garage door shop  on the 100 block of Durham Road. When firefighters got to the scene they had heavy fire coming from the windows. Officials said that the second floor was occupied by apartments.  All of the residents got out safe or were not home. A woman was said to have been transported with burns to a local hospital. The Red Cross was called to assist those left homeless. Fire crews from as far away as Newtown were called to the scene.

Durham Road was closed for several hours in the area of the fire.  Several cats were in at least one apartment, their fate is unknown.  The heat was a factor with firefighters who packed up in heavy gear and then had to break down their equipment.  The cause is  under investigation.   The fire happened just after noon today.

  1. I really don’t think that’s the Penndel Tavern, besides, there is no Penndel tavern in Penndel. That is a building near 141 Durham road. It was, or is the Acosta garage door facility.
