Overnight House Fire Claims One Life In Lower Southampton

One man was killed, after a fast moving fire destroyed his house on Hilton Road near Bailey Street, in Lower Southampton Twp. Police were first on scene and reported back to the fire department that they had a working fire at 3:30 AM. One man was trapped on the second floor..

The rest of the family was able to escape but they were treated on scene for smoke inhalation. The coroner was called to the scene for a pronouncement. This was a single family dwelling and the fire did not extend to any nearby structures.

The fire marshal was on scene, looking for a cause of the fire. as daylight broke, operations wrapped up and neighbors came by , some in shock to see what happened. Some described the house as having hoarding like conditions inside. The identity of the man killed is being withheld pending notification of all family members.

The fire marshal did not release a cause of the fire. The family kept ducks as pets, and at least two of them were spotted in the front yard, alive and well, in their enclosure.
