Over 200 Years Experience At Bucks County Radio Station

by Paul Big Bear

Tuesday comes out to dine on Thursday

Once a month a group gathers for dinner at a Chinese Buffet usually the first Thursday of the month, this month (July) the first Thursday was the 4th of July so we gathered on the second Thursday. The group consists of on air personalities from WRDV radio (89.3 FM) predominantly the Tuesday line up; Ted Taylor opens the day at eight AM to Noon with “The Morning Show” with a Big Band format. Ted was joined by his wife Cindy and has 59 years experience in broadcasting and entertainment. Second is Michele Kenny Noon to three with her “Backstage Pass” featuring the great Crooners, she brings twenty-five years experience to the table. At three O:clock Jack McAvoy takes the microphone with “Swing’s the Thing” and eleven years under his belt and was joined by his wife Mary. At six it’s Paul Big Bear “The Party Continues, Elvis – Country – Big Bear”, and I bring 57 years with me and was joined by my wife Ginny. At nine to Midnight Dave Solomon presents “Good Old Rock & Roll” and 56 years of experience joined by his wife Kathy, add the years of experience and you have 208 years every Tuesday.

What makes this more interesting is WRDV is a non commercial Community radio station staffed by volunteers who, for the most part supply their own music, programming it with the knowledge and insight gleaned from their love and years of playing music not for money but because they love what they do. WRDV broadcasts over seven stations and streams on the internet. Ted and Dave often fill in for others who for whatever reason need a day off. On this particular night Chris Burden who takes the air on Wednesday nights (6 to 9) with “Primetime 70’s and 80’s” and 35 years experience and Mark After Dark who hosts an after midnight show and 30 years under his belt round out this month’s meal. Another musical talent that joined this month was Gentle Ben my music director, manager, and partner with my entertainment career (singing performance) with his 20 years musical experience; he and I set up and sang a few songs,

Finally I want to add this; the Chinese Buffet Restaurant York Road in Warminster presents great food; Chinese cuisine, Sushi, and Wok bar b q. The lady’s that take your drink order, clear away empty plates, and see to it that the three two sided piers of food trays are never empty, always hot and that includes three choices of great soup do their job professionally with friendly, smiling demeanor. One other thing that happens Ginny and I look forward to August and another dinner with our great group of friends.
