The Good and Bad From The Super Bowl Parade
by Alex Lloyd Gross
This is Philly. We do things differently here. When we throw a victory parade we try to get it right. For the most part, the Philadelphia Eagles and parade organizers did a fantastic job. There were some moments that stood out above the rest and a few lows, (which had nothing to do with the Eagles).

Just one of the double decker buses transporting the Eagles.
The fact that team members got off the buses and interacted with fans was over the top. The parade should have started about 30 minutes earlier. It was scheduled to arrive at city hall around noon. it was 12:30 PM for that location, and 1:30 to Logan Circle. That gets the parade to the destination quicker and allows for more time from the team to talk.

Not everyone is six feet tall. Lower the podium or have a step stool for smaller folks to talk from. Mayor Cherelle Parker could not be seen well from those in front of the Art Museum. Her speech was long winded and irrelevant. No one cared what she had to say past two minutes. As she droned on, a massive booing took place by the million people that were there. If you do not have anything to do with the team, remarks should be limited. Players/coaches and owners can talk all they want. It’s their moment.

More Big Dom. People like him, he is from Philly .His remarks were way too short.
Many people thought he music being played was not appropriate for children. It was rap with lots of “Bitches and whores” in the lyrics. The music should be a mix to include rap, rock, and country,
Many people do not recognize players out of uniform. Lots of people thought the teams should wear their jersey’s.. The cheerleaders and Swoop had their own floats. The view of Swoop coming up Broad Street or on the parkway with confetti flying everywhere was a repeat from last year and should be kept. It;s a great visual and precursor to what is behind him.

Howie Roseman got hit in the head by a can of beer, which caused a giant mark on him prior to the conclusion of the parade. Fans need to stop this practice. Someone is going to get hurt and someone did, although not intentionally. Fans that threw beer cans to players frequently would miss the intended recipient. Police and unsuspecting fans on the other side could get hurt.

When Saquon Barkley saw the team ball boy and pulled him over the fence that was caught on video and it is going viral. Same with Jason Kelce tipping his cap in front of city hall.
The high point on the day was the way the Eagles brought everyone together. The low point took place just outside the parade area. Two women were shot, police said. The parade medical station, located at 24th and the Ben Franklin Parkway did triage on her, until she could be taken to a local hospital. None of the injuries was life threatening.

Fans are hoping that Philly sports teams will continue the winning tradition and Philly should keep their play book handy for how they run championship parades. This one was one for the record books and the parade will go down in Philadelphia’s history as one of the shining moments and is sure to be copied by cities across the nation.
