Danny Ceisler, the new sheriff in Bucks County, was officially sworn in earlier this week in Doylestown. Ceisler, a native of Bristol Borough, knew that many of his friends and colleagues could not take off work in the middle of the day to attend the ceremony, so he held another one just a few blocks from his home.

This ceremony was held at the Bristol Riverside Theater and was well attended. While anyone could walk in, most of those present were people he will work with. Many police chiefs from the lower end of the county were representing their townships or boroughs.

During his remarks, Ceisler said that partnering with ICE is not the duty of the sheriff, and that practice would stop. He also spoke about how important it is for his office to move the correct prisoner to the correct courtroom. “It is frustrating for a victim to come to court, miss work, face people, and recount one of the worst days of their lives, only to hear that the defendant was not brought down,” Ceisler said. That frustration can lead to a victim not wanting to go through the process again, and the case gets dismissed.

Ceisler spoke about his hope to work with police departments and colleagues across the area to keep citizens safe. “When serving an arrest warrant, it is dangerous to approach a door and not know what is behind it,” he said.

Also sworn in were Joseph Fuentes, a former commander with the Pennsylvania State Police, who will serve as Chief Deputy, and George McClay, the former police chief of Morrisville Borough. This was not an official ceremony, but as Bill Pezza, president of Raising the Bar in Bristol Borough, said, it was “an amazing way to show off Bristol Borough.
