Burglar Shot Dead By Homeowner In Rhawnhurst Overnight

A burglar that broke into a home on the 1600 block of Griffith Street was killed when a resident of the home woke up and shot him. According to police, the incident happened at about 1:30 AM. Police said the front door was forced open.

A person sleeping in the first floor woke up and saw the intruder. That intruder was carrying a stick and refused to drop it when told to do so. The homeowner then shot him once in the chest when he refused. The suspect was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

No charges are expected to be filed against the homeowner. The identity of the burglar has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
