Controversial Halloween Display Still Stands In Bristol Borough

by Alex Lloyd Gross

A controversial Halloween display will not be taken down until after the holiday, according to the homeowners. The display has divided people into two groups. One finds it offensive and racist and the other thinks people are overreacting.

The NAACP has sent a letter to the homeowner and borough council has asked the homeowner to take it down. Short of asking, there is nothing they can do. It is not breaking any laws, it falls under free speech.

The display consists of black trash bags, with balls taped around them to resemble ghosts. These ghosts are hanging from trees and the people offended say it resembles lynchings of black people that was prevalent from the 1800’s through the mid 1900’s.

The ghosts are part of a larger display that shows monsters and other things associated with Halloween. Right below the ghosts are gravestones and they are being guarded by a huge monster. The house has other Halloween decorations as well.

This display has been up for about a month. It is located on Farragut Avenue. The residents have previously stated they will not be removing or changing the display.
