According to police, a speeding vehicle driven by a 21 year old male did not stop at a red light. It hit another car traveling east and then pushed that car into a mother and son who were walking down the street. The crash happened about 8:00 PM at the intersection of Bustleton Ave. and Rennard. Street. The mother was slammed through the windshield of another car that was north on Bustleton Ave. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The vehicle that she was pushed into was a ride share vehicle and they were carrying a 77 year old passenger, who sustained non life threatening injuries. The mother was walking with her child who sustained injury as well.
Police said there are witnesses that told them the vehicle that was speeding did not stop at a red light. That car, a Mercedes was traveling south on Bustleton Ave. This accident took place less than a mile from where an estimated 300 people took over an intersection about a month ago. That was at Bustleton and Philmont Ave.
Police said that it is too early to talk about any charges that the driver may face. They will have to do an investigation first. Police tow impounded the Mercedes where presumably t will undergo a complete safety overhaul to see if there were any defects or malfunctions with the vehicle.
